Our Core Values
In karate, core values refer to the fundamental principles and ethical guidelines that practitioners follow to develop both their martial arts skills and their character. These values shape a karateka’s behaviour, mindset, and approach to training and life. Below are our core values.
Seek Perfection of Character
The lifelong pursuit of self-improvement—not just physically, but mentally and morally as well. It means striving to be the best version of oneself in all aspects of life, demonstrating integrity, humility, discipline, and respect.
Be Faithful
Demonstrating loyalty, commitment, and sincerity in your training, your dojo, and the martial arts way. Faithfulness is about staying dedicated to the practice, respecting the teachings, and upholding the values of honour, integrity, and perseverance both inside and outside the dojo.
Respect Others
Respect in Gōjū-ryū is shown through actions such as:
-
Bowing when entering the dojo and before training.
-
Listening attentively to instructors and senior students.
-
Training with humility, recognising that every lesson is an opportunity to learn.
-
Treating others with courtesy, whether they are opponents or allies.

Be Courageous
Means having the strength to face challenges with confidence, determination, and integrity—both in training and in life. Courage in Gōjū-ryū is not just about fighting or physical toughness; it’s about the willingness to push beyond limits, embrace difficulties, and stay committed to the path of self-improvement.
Strive to Reach the Essence of Gōjū-ryū
The essence of Gōjū-ryū lies in:
-
Mastery of Self – Training the body, mind, and spirit through discipline, perseverance, and humility.
-
Balance – Developing both explosive power and smooth, flowing movements, both strength and flexibility.
-
Connection to Tradition – Respecting the teachings passed down through generations and preserving the art’s true form.
-
Application in Life – Using the principles of Gōjū-ryū not just in combat but in daily challenges, relationships, and personal growth.
Never Give Up
Embody the spirit of perseverance, discipline, and resilience in both training and life. It means pushing through physical and mental challenges, continuously improving technique, and maintaining a strong mindset even in the face of setbacks.
